Testosterone and Hormones

Testosterone is a natural steroidal hormone in the human body that is responsible for the development of muscle mass, bone density, sperm production in men, regulation of sex drive (libido), fat distribution and metabolism (burning fat), and the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow. Regarding men, it is the most important hormone and a fundamental building block of a healthy body. Testosterone also plays major roles in cognitive functions, concentration, energy levels, and regulating healthy sleeping habits.

When you come into Epoch Health for your men’s health screening, two of the nine tests we collect will be your Total and Free Testosterone. Total Testosterone is the amount of Testosterone your body naturally produces and Free Testosterone is the amount of “working Testosterone”, or the amount of Testosterone your body actually uses. By having both of these numbers it allows our Physicians to thoroughly evaluate your hormonal health. If you have medical abnormalities in these numbers, our Physicians will work with you to develop a plan to help you get your life back to a healthy and functional state.

In addition to Testosterone, our men’s health screening also measures other hormonal levels: TSH (thyroid) and Estradiol (estrogen). Testosterone can convert to estrogen in a man’s body, and this conversion can get out of control and lead to numerous health issues, including: sleep disturbance, prostate issues, osteoporosis, emotional imbalances, and mental health concerns. Epoch Health uses routine blood testing to evaluate Thyroid functions, Estradiol and Testosterone levels, as well as using state-of-the-art body analyzers to constantly monitor therapies for patient safety and total health progression.

The symptoms of Low testosterone mimic several other underlining medical issues, this is why Epoch provides a screening to make sure we know exactly what is going on inside your body and why. We have listed some common symptoms of Low Testosterone for you to look over and see if they sound familiar.

Take this short assessment and see if it rings a bell with you:

  • I don’t have as much energy as I used to
  • I don’t feel like I see physical results when I exercise
  • I gain weight more easily than I used to
  • I seem to have trouble losing weight
  • I often feel sad, depressed or frustrated
  • I’m easily agitated
  • I have a hard time concentrating or staying focused
  • I don’t have the drive at work I once did
  • I sometimes forget things I normally wouldn’t
  • I don’t have the sex drive I used to have
  • I don’t feel like I’m really living or loving my life the way I could be

If one or more of these symptoms describes how you regularly feel, then you need Epoch Health. Not only will we test for Low Testosterone levels, we also test for other serious medical conditions that mimic the symptoms listed above. This ensures you’re not only getting the best possible care, but also the most appropriate treatment for you.

At Epoch, we want you to be healthier and to feel better. If you are a candidate for Testosterone therapy, our Physicians will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is right for you. After being on Testosterone therapy, most men begin to experience the physical and mental benefits of properly regulated health, which commonly includes:

  • Improved muscle mass, strength and stamina
  • Quicker recovery times after workouts
  • Increased desire to workout with improved results
  • Improved libido (sexual desire)
  • More efficient metabolism
  • Increased bone density and decrease in joint pain
  • Thickened hair and skin
  • Decreased irritability and decreased depression
  • Happier and increase positive outlook on life
  • Improved cognitive functions, ability to focus, and mental drive
  • Daily boost in physical and mental energy
  • Increased meaningful sleep patterns
  • Drastically improved relationships with their loved ones

Testosterone-driven clinics (referred to as “shot boxes”) are popping up all around the nation, capitalizing on symptoms associated with Low Testosterone levels. The basic ploy these clinics use may sound familiar: “Have low energy? Having weight gain? Do you have a loss of libido? Well, you have Low Testosterone! Let’s get you started on treatment immediately and regain your youth and vitality!” On the surface, it sounds pretty promising. If you have the symptoms listed, you go in, pay the fee, get a shot and go about your business. You may initially begin to feel the positive effects, but starting testosterone therapy without proper testing and continual monitoring, diagnosis, medically-backed treatment plans and lack of vital follow-up is very dangerous.

Epoch Health is different. We are real healthcare. We follow established, medically-supported, evidence-based Best Practices and protocols, perform routine lab testing to ensure patient safety, and ensure patients who have common symptoms of Low Testosterone do not have any underlying medical issues before beginning treatment. In fact, our health screening occasionally uncovers important, even life-threatening health issues (cancers, etc.) that the patients didn’t even know they had - and through patient-centered treatment, we were able to give them the appropriate medical treatment they needed. We save lives. At the very least, we give men their lives back through honesty, integrity, and teaching, testing and treating the whole man, not just a “symptom”.

Pharmaceutical-grade Testosterone is one of the most widely abused performance enhancing drugs in professional sports and gyms across the United States. With the obvious benefits from increasing Testosterone levels in the body, these guys put their overall health at serious risk because they are not following safe, medically-appropriate best practices and are not being routinely evaluated for potential hazards and dangers.

Doping is known to cause:

  • Enlarged breasts
  • Cardiac problems
  • Enlarged prostate gland, which may increase the risk of prostate cancer
  • Tumors of the liver
  • Depression and aggressive behaviors
  • Increased acne
  • High blood pressure

Using Testosterone without any medical clearance and regular testing is extremely dangerous to your health. The positive gains might be immediate, but the long term negative effects can be life threatening.
